The Fall of 2006 was an extremely difficult period for area Muslims endeavouring to establish the Newmarket Mosque.

A great deal of time and effort was needlessly exhausted defending our right to establish a Place of Worship and responding to baseless, and at times, hate-filled challenges.

Alhumdullilah, Allah (SWT) gave us the wisdom to not be pulled into such meaningless debates, and the patience to rise above the rhetoric and prejudice.  In the end, faith, sincerity and honesty prevailed.

As Allah (SWT) enjoins in the Holy Quran: "repel the evil deeds of others with your good deeds", and that is what we did.  Rather than getting pulled into a senseless exchange of words with those whose hearts were already hardened against our Mosque, we took a principaled stand and let our actions, patience and good deeds speak for themselves.

In the end, with the immeasurable help of Allah (SWT); with the support and good will of the people of Newmarket; the kind help of our friends within the Interfaith Community; and through principalled decisions by Town Council, we were able to overcome this difficult time, and are now eagerly looking forward to the completion of the renovations of our new Mosque.
Many Thanks to our Friends and Neighbours In Newmarket who stood by us in these difficult times.

The Executive Committee and Congregation of the Newmarket Mosque would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the residents of Newmarket, our friends and neighbours; members of Newmarket Town Council; and leaders of the Inter-Faith Community for your steadfast support and encouragement during this very difficult time.

It appears that with the passing of the final meeting in objection of our Mosque, we are beginning to emerge from under this most unfortunate cloud.  Everyone connected with the Mosque is extremely excited at the prospect of finally moving ahead with refurbishing the interior space of the Mosque and establishing faith programs and services.

Once the weather turns more favourable, we look forward to holding an Open House sometime this Spring, and sharing with you our House of Worship.
